250cc scooters are a great way to go. Here are some great brands to look at.
Honda - Always a reliable source of scooters, they do not have one in this class. You would have to go with the small SH150i or the much larger 600cc Silver Wing.
Kymco - The GrandVista 250 has a 4 stroke engine and you can expect to pay in the mid $4000 range. The one thing this model does not feature that others do is fuel injection.
Vespa Motor Scooters - You will find fuel injection and a 4 stroke, liquid cooled engine in both the GTS 250 and the GVT 250. The price range for these scooters is between $6000 - $7000.
United Motors Scooters - The Expressway, from United Motors, is the most affordable scooter in this category. It has a four stoke, liquid cooled engine and a price tag of right around $2000. I don't know about you, but that is a very doable price.
Scooters from Cheetah -- Despite no fuel injection, the Cheetah Touring 250 is a very popular scooter. With a price tag hanging around the $3000 mark, it's a good deal for a scooter of this size and power.
Yamaha Roketa MC-54-250 -- I still think of musical instruments when I think of Yamaha, but they do make this 250cc scooter that people seem to like, and with a price tag of $2000, it may be worth looking at a lot closer.
