Ford Finally Makes a Hybrid Worth Buying

by on 2010/02/08

With the demise of the defunct Ford Taurus, there has been a gaping hole in Ford's midsized line-up which Toyota and honda just love to see.Originally introduced in Ford's 2006 line-up, the Fusion has new modications including the new Hybrid power plant. The 2008 Los Angeles Auto Show. The excellent in-town gas mileage is what makes the Ford Fusion Hybrid so unique.Beating out the Toyota Camry by a large margin, and the economical Civic Hybrid by a hair; the Fusion Hybird is ranked at 41 MPG in town driving. The electric engine can get the Ford moving and can continue to power the car up to a limit of 47 mile per hour before the gas engine kicks in.  Already there have been many automotive magazines that have employed this system to achieve much better MPG ratings then the EPA estimates.

The Fusion can help teach the driver which style of driving gets the best fuel economy.Ford has made a smart feature built into the gauge cluster called the Smart Gauge. There are two displays on each side of the gauge cluster that show various hybrid info.  The first screen shows the fuel level and the level of power left in the batteries.  The second data screen adds an electric vehicle mode indicator and RPM Tach. This third gauge displays the output energy of the batteries and the engine. Finally, the last screen shows data in power to the wheels and additional power consumption. The info centers in the Fusion display MGP, fuel consumption past data, a driving log, and radiator temp.A real time MPG information gauge easily displays to drivers which driving style would be best for fuel economy.

Check the nav display to see the cool hybrid Energy Flow stuff. These smart gauges will display the different features of the hybrid powerplant including the 2 drives (electric and hybrid), the boost, charging while idle, and of course regenerative braking.

The For Fusion is unique among other hybrids in that recycled yarns were used to make the seats, another eco modification first.  After watching Toyota and Honda sell millions of hybrid vehicles; Ford has finally came out with a fuel efficient car that will appeal to the masses.
