BMW 6Series

There isn't a weak-willed 6-Series to be had. The 650 V8 offers 362bhp and 490Nm and if that isn't enough (you must be crazy!) the real deal is the current range-topping M6. Although it uses a slightly detuned version of the M5's V10, there's still a staggering 500bhp beneath the bonnet. It develops its maximum torque at a very high 6,100rpm meaning to get the best out of it, you need to rev like Schumacher. The 6-Series is more comfortable than a thoroughbred sports car, as befits a GT, so the ride is pretty good. It is a BMW though, so it can feel over-sprung and underdamped like many cars from Germany, and the runflat tyres most definitely do not help the ride. Stick to the 'Comfort' damping setting to avoid bruising.

This is a pretty big car but it still doesn't really provide any really usable rear space unless you 'modify' your passengers with a big saw. Boot space is acceptable at 4 5 0 litres, but you lose 150 litres of that if you choose the convertible version - the roof uses up a portion.

Great build quality. Many think of it as a halo car and it's built like it should be. Twinpod dash is canted towards the driver and all nicely tactile, fit and finish is excellent. Choose carefully, there are some virulent colour combinations in the spec-book. Airbags and ABS are standard, there's also traction and stability control as standard. A Six ain't cheap no matter which way you cut it. Hefty running costs mean that the Six has premium prices to match the image.
